The winter chills have subsided, and gentle warm breeze is making its way to us. The summer is officially here. It’s now time to pack up and put away those warm boots and thick jackets, and bring back tiny shorts and peppy sundresses. While we get ready to make the necessary wardrobe changes with the onset of summer, it’s also important to get your skin ready for the weather transition. Here are a few things you can do make your skin summer ready.

Exfoliate Religiously

The best way to achieve that perfect summer glow is by exfoliating your skin regularly. The extreme heat causes your pores to close up and makes you oil glands more active, which can lead to more breakouts. Research shows that 60 percent people have more acne during summers than winters, which makes it even more necessary to exfoliate 2-3 times a week and use products that soak up all the oil on your face. However, avoid using grainy scrubs for skin that is acne-prone, and look for products that have alpha hydroxy acids or salicylic acid.

Hydrate Yourself Properly

It’s wrong to think that skin only dries out during the winters. Summers are just as bad, especially if you live in a dry climate or are exposed to air conditioning throughout the day. It’s imperative to keep your body hydrated during this period, and drinking at least 2-3 litres of water a day is the easiest way to do that. Have a lot of juicy fruits and vegetables. Also, switch to a lighter moisturiser that softens your skin and prevents oil production. It’s advisable to use hydrating masks and products with Hyaluronic acid, silicones, squalane, and glycerin.

Fight UV Rays

Perhaps the worst thing about summer is how quickly we get tanned. Since you can’t dodge those harmful UV rays, the next best thing to do is use a good sunscreen, with SPF 50. And don’t forget your lips. Keep a lip balm with SPF handy to keep your lips from getting dry and dehydrated. You can also combat the side effects of UV rays by having food rich in antioxidants, like cucumbers and grilled tomatoes.

Go Hairless – Forever!

The best part about summer is that you can finally wear all those lovely dresses. But, first things first, get rid of all the body hair you’ve accumulated over the winters. You can opt for laser hair removal, which will free you from the hassle of having to wax and shave your skin again and again Just a few sessions will leave you sorted for life. And it works like magic on ingrown hair, too.

Here are some professional treatments to consider to prepare your skin for summer:

  1. Diamond polishing with oxy-infusion: A combination of these two treatments helps to open up the pores, and get rid of the tan and blemishes, giving your skin a healthy glow.
  2. Skin circulation therapy and oxygen face therapy: This works best to treat dehydrated, sun-damaged, and patchy skin. It calms and soothes the skin, improves your complexion, and removes unwanted toxins.
  3. Ionactive facials: If you want to make your skin feel radiant and hydrated, this is the facial to go for. It takes away all the after-effects of sun damage and pigmentation, giving you back your original complexion.

Making the transformation for your skin from the ‘winter hibernation mode’ to the ‘summer adventure spree’ can be a little tricky. But by following the tips I’ve laid out above, you’ll be able to achieve that perfect summer radiance your skin deserves.
